Aerial Lift Safety Dynamics

In the family of heavy duty equipment, an aerial lift has a comparatively low accident rate. Nonetheless, operating a lift within ANSI and OSHA guidelines will mean having to obtain full certification. That is, unless one opts to go with a top quality lift rental agency that provides certified operators with their equipment. This is a rather common and preferred practice for many individuals and businesses. An aerial lift rental with a certified operator keeps a job going at a proficient level; not to mention, it can save the day when an unexpected need for a scissor or boom lift suddenly crops up.

High Access Solutions is a specialized atrium lift rental company and a high access facility services provider. Whether you do the work using one of our spider lifts and operators, or we do the work for you, we provide access to all your hard-to-reach locations. Our goal is to provide the highest level of safety, quality, and professional services to our clients. If you are interested in our services, please contact us for a Free Analysis and Estimate.

Features

Aerial lifts are required to have their operating manual present and safety decals on display at all times. Other safety features on a lift can be anything from guardrails to static straps that prevent a build up of static electricity. As level ground is extremely important to the operation of any type of lift, many safety features include such things as counterweight balances and stabilizing arms. Level alarms alert operators in the event that the ground underneath the lift has shifted or has moved the lift's center of gravity. Most importantly is the manual decline valve for lowering a lift by hand, should the aerial lift somehow lose power.

Assessments

Whether used for inside or outside tasks, a worksite assessment is essential to making sure an aerial lift can function to the best of its ability. While things that are above the lift can prove to be hazards, the ground needs careful examination as well. Divots, holes, uneven ground and other anomalies are always a cause for concern. If the lift is to be used outside, weather considerations will need to play a factor as well. Because there is a capacity to greatly diminish the stability of a lift, such equipment should not be used in wind that is blowing above thirty miles per hour.

Last but not least, the aerial lift should be in good operating condition as well. Operators will check all equipment inside and out before allowing the lift to be put into use. This means making sure all switches, controls and pedals are fully functional. A trained operator will also watch for any hesitation or other mechanical problems while the lift is in service. At the end of the day, the lift should be properly shut down by the operator and moved to a secure area.
